La Maison Montignac is a recently converted barn offering 7 bedrooms sleeping 15 people. It is located 1 hour from Bordeaux International Airport (Merignac), 45 minutes from Bergerac (RyanAir). If you prefer the train, the gite is 1 hour from Bordeaux TGV station and only 40 minutes from Libourne TGV, both of which offer connections to Paris and Lille. If you are driving from Calais it takes about 8 hours.

Near to the Gironde / Dordogne borders in the heart of the Bordeaux wine region, the property is situated on the outskirts of the XII Century bastide town of Monsegur, at the end of a quiet lane on an acre of secluded, landscaped gardens.

One of the attractions of the property is its view from the front aspect, which faces west over the tennis court. The valley below is filled with sunflower fields and vineyards and in the distance you can see the ancient town of Duras.

The property offers 7 bedrooms and sleeps up to 15 people in comfort, as follows:

A fully fitted modern kitchen comprising oven, ceramic hob, dishwasher, microwave, 2 fridges with freezer compartments, kettle, toaster, coffee maker and picnic hamper at your disposal. There is a 40ft open plan living area with panoramic window and 22ft oak beamed ceiling, lounge with stone fireplace housing wood burining stove. The large dining table seats 14.

Additional facilities include: English Sky TV/Radio with DVD/video (mobile English video rental service), hi-fi, games room with table tennis and small pool table, board games, library, iron and ironing board and room fans. Heating in the winter is by wood-buring stove and electric heaters.

Towels and bed linen are included in the price and are changed weekly, when the property is also cleaned. Please bring your own beach/pool towels (the new swimming pool will be ready for the 2006 season). There is also a laundry room with washing machine. The telephone receives all incoming calls and is available for local calls.

There is also a local English babysitting service.

The front of the gite offers a large patio offering views of the valley. There is also a covered veranda at the rear and additional shingle patio area. Outdoors equipment includes a BBQ, patio furniture, sun loungers, a hammock, badminton, full-size clay tennis court, childrens' swings and landscaped gardens. There is private off-road parking for several cars. There is a new games room with high-beamed ceilings, keeping it cool in the heat and offering table tennis and a 6-foot pool table. Bicycle hire is available as is English film hire (door to door service for both, details in the house). A brand new swimming pool was installed in 2006.

Monsegur is a pretty XII Century bastide town set around a market square which plays host to twice-weekly markets. It also offers cafes, bars, a boulangerie, pharmacy, supermarket, banks, restaurants and the popular pizzeria has live music every week. A supermarket and petrol station are only three quarters of a mile away from the house.

One and a half hours' away is the 150-mile long sandy beach at Arcachon and Biscarosse. Locally there are too many historic sites and attractions to list here but the gite contains many leaflets and information on what's on. A local nature trail is just a few minutes' walk from the house. The local tourist information office is 1 mile away from the gite.
