La Cour Aux Bourgeois
For babies, toddlers and their parents.

Normandy.
The South-facing wing with its separate gite accommodation
Welcome to La Cour Aux Bourgeois, a unique family holiday destination designed exclusively for young families.

A rambling 17th century farmhouse in the heart of the Normandy countryside, La Cour Aux Bourgeois combines the flexibility and living space of self-catering accommodation with optional services such as table d'hote and childcare to relieve the stresses of holidaying with little ones - simply choose how independent or indulgent you'd like your holiday to be.

The three hundred year-old accommodation has been stylishly renovated to create a suite of rooms that are toddler and baby-friendly without sacrificing the needs of discerning parents. All the necessary baby equipment is provided which combined with a free laundry service and tonnes of play equipment eliminates the need to pack your entire house before departure.

Our unique Tried and Tested directory will point you in the direction of child friendly attractions and activities or you may just want to stay closer to home lazing in the hammock whilst the kids exhaust themselves in the playbarn. Whatever your needs our aim is to offer a relaxed and informal environment where all family members can equally enjoy their precious holiday time.

Accommodation and facilities
La Cour Aux Bourgeois is a former working farm and artist's workshop. Now home to the Caille family part of the property has been converted into a beautiful holiday home. The apartment is arranged over the first floor of the south-facing wing, linked to but independent from the owners' home. The décor is an eclectic mix of French and English country styles to create a relaxed, traditional atmosphere and has been designed with the needs of both small children and discerning parents in mind. It is spacious and has been child-proofed as far as possible whilst remaining pretty, cosy and comfortable.
The accommodation comprises:

Three bedrooms:
" 1 double (with enough room for a travel cot if required)
" 1 twin (additional bed or cot available for this room)
" 1 baby room/single (with full-size wooden cot and change table or one single bed)
Shutters on all windows make the bedrooms suitable for children used to sleeping in a very dark room.

Bathroom (bath, shower, sink)
Separate toilet
Large living area with:
- well equipped corner kitchen including dishwasher and microwave.
- comfortable lounge area with television and DVD player
- dining area including high chair/booster seat

Home from home:

The gite's double bedroom

The apartment is equipped with basic domestic products and all the necessary baby paraphernalia so you don't have to spend hours shopping, packing and setting up home on arrival. All bed linen and towels are provided and all utility costs are included in the rental, so with oil-fired central heating you can holiday comfortably and affordably at any time of the year.

The gite's unique, toddler-safe Play Barn

The property is situated in approximately three acres of land including an outdoor play area with wooden play equipment, sandpit and in warmer weather a paddling pool. The specially designed playbarn with its vast array of toys, 12ft trampoline and creative corner to keep little hands busy is a kid's paradise that will keep even the most demanding child happy from the crack of dawn - so at least one parent can have a peaceful lie-in!
Optional Services
Table d'hôte (evening meal):

You can choose to cook for yourself in the well-equipped kitchen or order-in from your hosts. Simply order twenty-four hours in advance and a home-cooked meal will be delivered to your suite-or dine under the apple trees if you prefer. Produce is either home grown or sourced locally wherever possible and as a former chef of fifteen years you can be sure that Laurent will rustle up something delicious whatever the season.

Although table d'hote is traditionally a set menu, a choice of food is available and and special dietary requirements can be catered for. The meal service is available up to a maximum of four nights per week and free babylistening means that you can take advantage of the excellent restaurants in and around Falaise at other times.

Child-minding & Babylistening:

If you and your partner would like to enjoy a few hours alone together we will be glad to offer a child-minding service during the day or baby-listening during the evening. Child-minding is available two half days per week and needs to be booked 48 hours in advance (there is a charge of 9 euros per hour). Babylistening can be arranged for any evening and is free of charge.

Free Laundry service:

If the thought of packing your child's entire wardrobe or having a mountain of washing to do on your return fills you with dread why not take advantage of our laundry service and return home with a suitcase full of clean clothes? Your clothes will be washed, dried and folded free of charge.

Pre-arrival shopping service:

Before arrival simply email your requirements and you can arrive to a well-stocked fridge and plentiful nappy supply. You just need to pack a few clothes and we'll take care of all the rest.

Food and Formula

France is the world's largest consumer of pre-prepared babyfood so even your baby can enjoy the french culinary experience. From artichokes to aubergines you will find practically everything in purée form. There are also ready-meals for toddlers that are equally exciting although there's plenty of regular chicken and carrot combinations for picky eaters. Organic babyfood is available at the larger hypermarkets (Carrefour and Leclerc) and there is a health food shop in Falaise selling organic veg if you want to do-it-yourself (a hand-blender is provided).

Formula is readily available although they tend to be French brands so if you don't want to risk your baby refusing a new brand it would be wise to bring a sufficient supply.

Medical Facilities

Should you need it the french medical system is easily accessible even to visitors - so long as you have the ability to pay. A doctor's apointment costs 20 euros and a home visit around 50 euros. Although France has a reciprocal agreement with the UK regarding free healthcare in the case of a simple doctor's appointment you may well be given short shrift if you start waving around an E111. It is more usual to pay at the time of treatment and reclaim through your personal travel insurance. Prescriptions are payable at full cost (and you will most definitely receive one as long as your arm if you see a doctor) so once again comprehensive travel insurance is a must.

We have a digital thermometer and an armoury of standard children's medication for non-urgent cases but can arrange doctor's appointments and accompany you to translate if necessary.
